Volunteers’ Week 2025 has drawn to a close—and what a remarkable week it has been. Throughout the week, OpenSight has proudly celebrated the compassion, commitment, and energy that drive our mission forward.

We kicked things off with a special event on the first Monday in June. It marked the beginning of what we hope will become an annual tradition—bringing together our incredible volunteer community to connect, reflect, and most importantly, celebrate. From now on, this event will be a regular highlight in our calendar.

Pippa and Lindsey welcomed everyone warmly, while our team shared stories and gave heartfelt thanks. Volunteers are the eyes, ears, and heart of OpenSight. You guide others, offer companionship, support services, and help raise awareness. Your kindness creates real change in the lives of people living with sight loss.

The event also saw the return of our Volunteer Length of Service Awards. These awards honour the time, loyalty, and dedication our volunteers bring to OpenSight. We recognised milestones from five years all the way to an extraordinary 60 years of service.

Margaret McKenzie received a standing ovation for her incredible six decades of volunteering. Her story, like so many others, reminds us of the lasting impact volunteers make over time.

We also presented the Jenny Robinson Awards, which celebrate exceptional contributions from volunteers who go above and beyond. These individuals inspire others and embody the very best of what OpenSight stands for.

Volunteers’ Week 2025 may have come to a close, but our appreciation continues year-round. We don’t just celebrate what you do—we rely on it. You help create a more connected, inclusive, and supportive world for people with sight loss.

Thank you for every moment you give, every challenge you help overcome, and every life you touch. OpenSight is stronger because of you—and we look forward to celebrating with you again next year.
