As part of our Centenary celebrations, OpenSight decided to commemorate the visit on the 17th of November 2022 of HRH The Countess of Wessex GCVQ by arranging for a Time Capsule to be buried in the sensory garden at the front of the main office. Recommendations from the staff for contents, included photographs of our client’s enjoying themselves at our Social Groups, Active Age Groups’s days out, receiving advice at our pop-up Information Hubs and toddlers having a good time playing at our Early Years Group.
Ten News Headlines from the 17th of November and Hopes for the Future of Sight Loss from the charity staff, were added as well as a copy of the book by OpenSight entitled ‘Vision of the Past’ featuring visually impaired staff and clients taking us along their sight loss journey. Finally, the Court Circular announcing the visit from HRH Countess of Wessex as featured in The Times, a selection of OpenSight leaflets and a photograph of the entire staff team completed the mix, in anticipation of the Time Capsule being re-discovered in 2122.
Doris Fitall who is a long-term client of OpenSight and who also celebrated her 100th birthday in 2022 joined the OpenSight Team on 1st February 2023 to bury the capsule.
