Help test whether a phone app could help find skin cancer

Help & Care and Wessex Cancer Alliance are undertaking a project to understand whether people would use a smartphone app called SkinVision to check for changes to their skin.

The app is designed to spot early signs of skin cancer and help people decide when to see a doctor. The project team want to know what different groups of people think about using it.

Would you be interested in taking part in an online focus group, to discuss what you think about the App and whether you would use it? The session will be on Thursday 18th December (2pm) and you will receive a £25 tesco voucher for taking part.

If you’d like to get involved, email [email protected].

If you would like to download the app before the session, you can find it by searching ‘SkinVision’ on both android and apple. This is not a requirement though, just if you are interested.

More information about the project:

Why are we doing this?

  • Skin cancer is common in the UK but much easier to treat when found early.
  • More people in Hampshire, Dorset and the Isle of Wight are booking GP appointments about skin concerns.
  • Most (87%) of face-to-face checks turn out to be nothing serious.
  • There are a limited number of skin cancer specialists, so we’re exploring other ways to make sure people at higher risk are seen quickly.
  • SkinVision might help people decide if and when they need medical advice.

What is SkinVision?

What we will do with our findings

    • Use what we learn to explore whether SkinVision could be used more widely.
    • Identify and try to remove barriers that might stop people using the app.
    • Make sure we consider the needs of people who may find the app difficult to use.
    • Your feedback is anonymous and confidential.
