Inclusive Cycling in the New Forest

12th February 2025

“Quick thank you to Jo for being my cycle buddy today. Enjoyed the conversation and the nice sunny weather. Up for another charge down the hill when you free. Let’s hope there’s no one in the way this time we can carry on going the whole way down at full pelt. I will be shouting look no hands” Trish, Open Sight Service User

In July Jo, our Independent Living Advisor, joined Trish and other Vision Impaired individuals in the New Forest for an inclusive cycling activity organised by Pedall. Pedall is dedicated to making cycling accessible to everyone. Boasting one of the most diverse fleets of specialist cycles in the country, they offer various seating positions, three or four wheels for increased stability, and straps and harnesses to support body weight, catering to a wide range of disabilities.

“People living with sight loss want to live diverse and exciting lives the same as anybody else. For this to happen sometimes activities need to be adjusted or modified to make them accessible. The team at Pedall understand this and their fleet of adapted cycles allow someone with a vision impairment to enjoy the fresh air and beauty of the New Forest like any other cyclist. This sort of thinking by Pedall to ensure everyone can participate is exactly the mindset we have at OpenSight, our approach is to empower anyone living with sight loss to live the life they choose with a few adaptations and adjustments” Ian Morris, Head of Services
